ORLANDO PARKS INCREASE TICKET PRICES

Universal Orlando has confirmed a rate increase for park tickets. A single day single park pass will now cost $105, up from $102. A park-to-park pass will see an $8 increase from the previous ticket price of $147 to $155.

Universal officials are pointing guests to the value of a multi-day vacation package over a single day park visit.

"We provide the greatest value where our guests tell us it matters most – with our popular multi-day tickets and vacation packages. Guests who use multi-day tickets or packages can save as much as $40 off our single day ticket price."

Universal Parks and Resorts

This pricing structure has been the norm in the Orlando theme parks for a while now. With both Disney and Universal trying to force guests to pick one destination over the other, rather than visiting both parks in a single vacation. And if history holds true, this rate change only signals that a Disney price increase is coming.

Experts are speculating however, that Disney is considering the shift to "surge" pricing, similar to the structure recently adopted at Universal Studios Hollyword. With surge pricing, ticket rates would fluctuate continuously based on attendance. This pricing structure is already in place in most resorts with rates increasing during busy holiday periods.

Whether Disney decides to change its pricing over to a "surge" structure or not, a ticket price increase is almost assured in the near future.

So what does it all mean if you are looking to plan a trip to an Orlando area park?

If you are even considering a Disney vacation in the next year, it would be worth going ahead and booking a trip now. Lock in your ticket prices as part of your package before any rate changes take effect. You can always make changes to your package along the way or even cancel if needed.

If you are considering a Universal trip, the rates have already increased. The annual pass prices, however, have remained the same for now. Which makes that an even better option than before. Especially if you live in the Florida/Georgia area and can consider making more than one trip in a calendar year to Universal.
