WILL THE MASS CLOSINGS COMING TO DISNEY'S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS REALLY EFFECT YOUR VISIT?

Over the past few months Disney has made a number of permanent closures at its Hollywood Studios Park. These changes are in preparation for 2 massive construction projects on the horizon. The additions of Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land will be a major improvement to the park, but what will it be like in the transition period. With 10 additional closures slated for April 3rd it is a good time to look at exactly how all this construction work is going to affect your visit.

The predominant view point being shouted around the social mediasphere is that "Hollywood Studios is closing half the park and I should either skip it on my next trip or get a major discount on the tickets". A valid thought considering the sheer number of things that have been or are going to be closed. What needs to be considered however, is whether or not these are closures that will even effect you on your trip.

This seems like a large list, but how many would you actually visit if they were still open. My kids have enjoyed the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure in the past, but it is usually just as an afterthought and not something we seek out. We have seen the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show and it was enjoyable enough, but not something that would ruin my trip if we missed it. The main loss here will be the effect on the crowds. The stunt show takes in a large crowd of people that will now be dispersed to other attractions. And my kids have done the Meet & Greet: Mike and Sulley at Streets of America, but this loss will be offset with the addition of new character meet & Greets in other areas of the park. Star Wars character interactions have already been added to the Launch Bay area and new upcoming meet & Greets with Mickey, Minnie, and Olaf have been announced as well.

The mainstay attractions for my family are still here. Toy Story Mania, easily the most popular ride in the park, will be adding an additional track to help absorb some of the crowds from the closures. Star Tours has been updated to include characters and locations from the new Star Wars films. Rockin' Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror are still open. The Great Movie Ride, while in desperate need of a refresh, is still a great classic Disney style attraction and still open. On our last visit, I don't think my family went to anything on the list of upcoming closures.

The additions of the Star Wars Launch Bay, the Symphony in the Stars fireworks display, and the character meet & greets are a good start in keeping the park viable during the long construction period. While Disney continues with closures in the park they are clearly trying to add value back in at the same time.

So how do you think all the closures will affect your trip? Are they minor closures that don't affect you at all? Are there attractions that you are going to miss? Are you planning on skipping Hollywood Studios for a couple of years? Let us know.
